The modification of the bulbous bow and the installation of the desulfurization system are key projects in the repair and modification of the vessel, and they are also important works for controlling the dry dock period.
On May 26, the "Mediterranean Paris" vessel completed all repair and modification works at Xinhong Heavy Industry and embarked on a new journey under the tow of a tugboat, looking brand new.
The "Mediterranean Paris" is the first vessel in the series of desulfurization modification projects for three 8200TEU container ships contracted by Xinhong Heavy Industry for MSC. The main repair works include: routine dry dock repairs, installation of the desulfurization system (POT), installation of the ballast water system, and replacement of the bulbous bow. The project is complex with many points and aspects, and the company attaches great importance to it, planning scientifically. The production department's project team organized a pre-production planning meeting in advance with various departments, carefully planning aspects such as technology, safety, quality, and schedule, formulating a reasonable repair plan, and arranging the construction schedule according to the sailing time.
The modification of the bulbous bow and the installation of the desulfurization system are key projects in the repair of this vessel and are also important for controlling the dry dock period. The desulfurization system installed on the "Mediterranean Paris" is a hybrid type, which is flexible and energy-saving, but also poses higher technical requirements for the modification. The project involves three chimney segments, two cabinet segments, five strong alkali sealed compartments, and special coating works, with over 400 fiberglass pipes installed in the entire system. In addition to actively implementing various preparatory work from procurement, technology, and segment prefabrication, after the vessel entered the factory, the general management team also summarized the engineering quantity daily, ensuring that every small node of the project could be smoothly connected through detailed planning and reasonable assignment of work. All projects formed a systematic and large-scale approach, ensuring that the modification work progressed in an orderly manner.

In the modification and replacement of the bulbous bow, the project team promptly coordinated with safety and technical departments to develop a safer and more reasonable lifting and installation process for the new and old bulbous bows, holding multiple production briefing meetings; using brackets and mobile carts to transport the bulbous bow in batches; strengthening quality control at all stages and strictly controlling segment precision. Each workshop worked continuously 24 hours a day, "fighting through the night" at the forefront. With the joint efforts of all departments, they overcame adverse weather conditions such as heavy rain and strong winds, completing the bulbous bow modification project in just six and a half days in the dry dock, providing strong support for the rapid advancement of subsequent projects. Safety is the cornerstone of enterprise development, and quality is the guarantee of the enterprise's brand. The project management team actively planned and tracked management in their work, reinforcing execution and optimizing implementation in every detail of the project. From cleaning up the work site and quality safety briefings to the implementation and optimization of processes and procedures, they ensured that all projects were completed safely, orderly, and efficiently.

Currently, the "Mediterranean Paris" has successfully completed all projects and set sail. The successful implementation of this hybrid desulfurization system installation and bulbous bow modification project has laid a solid foundation for the company's subsequent ship repair and modification efforts.
