The spring tide is surging, and good news has arrived! Recently, our company’s first-ever project to undertake the maintenance and modification of the cargo barge “Menas” has been successfully completed, with the vessel smoothly departing the shipyard and setting sail. The successful execution of this project marks another significant step forward for our company in the field of complex vessel repair and modification.
Technological Breakthrough: From Drawing Dilemmas to Precise Construction
At the very beginning of the project, the detailed design drawings provided by the shipowner were riddled with numerous issues: discrepancies between the model and reality, deviations in hull form, missing anchor platform drawings… Time and again, these design-related obstacles put the project team’s problem‑solving capabilities to the test.
Faced with these challenges, the Single-Vessel Management Project Team immediately coordinated with the detailed design and production design teams, as well as the shipowner’s engineering department, to hold a special workshop, taking the initiative to step in and address issues proactively. In response to problems such as incorrect cable pile and cable hole drawings, and discrepancies between on-site line shapes and design specifications, the Technical Department conducted precise on-site measurements and assisted the detailed design team in completing the necessary drawing revisions. When confronted with difficulties like the absence of design drawings for the anchor platforms and the inability to determine installation angles, the Technical Department rose to the challenge, independently carrying out field measurements and on-site fitting inspections, and successfully finalized the anchor platform dimensions through its own efforts—overcoming the daunting task of working without drawings thanks to its solid technical expertise. It is precisely this “don’t wait for others or rely on external support; take the initiative to tackle tough problems” technical approach that has ensured a smooth transition for the single-vessel project—from design coordination to production implementation.
Efficient Coordination: Precise Advancement in the Process of Demolishing the Old and Building the New
The single-vessel management project team carried out comprehensive planning and parallel advancement, seamlessly coordinating the demolition of the old section with the prefabrication of the new section. In the face of discrepancies between the design and the actual alignment, the team organized the construction crew to respond swiftly and make on-site adjustments, ensuring that the prefabricated nodes were completed on schedule.
While prefabrication work was being vigorously advanced, lifting and assembly operations were also proceeding in an orderly manner according to scheduled milestones. As each section was successfully lifted into place, supporting processes such as side wall installation, anchor winch positioning, and outer plate painting were seamlessly integrated and carried out in a coordinated, step‑by‑step fashion—ultimately culminating in the complete completion of the project on March 4. In just over a month, the single-vessel management team overcame multiple challenges, including design delays and tight construction schedules, and successfully delivered this maintenance and renovation project with high quality.
The successful completion of the “Meinas” vessel repair project is a concentrated demonstration of the company’s technical expertise and its capabilities in production organization and management, while also accumulating valuable experience for us to undertake various complex ship modification projects in the future. Moving forward, Xinhong Heavy Industry will continue to deepen its focus on ship repair and modification, forging quality through professionalism, earning trust through efficiency, creating value through service, and working hand in hand with our clients for mutual success.
